Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi Airport

Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (Suvarnabhumi is Thai for “Golden Land”) opened in 2006 as a replacement for the ageing Don Muang Airport, which is now a low-cost terminal only. It’s a major regional and intercontinental hub airport.

Location

Suvarnabhumi is located about 25 km (16 miles) east of Bangkok city centre and is connected to the city by Motorway 7 and by express rail link.

Facilities for disabled passengers

Unfortunately, the airport’s website doesn’t appear to offer any information about accessible facilities for disabled passengers. This is a pity, as the airport appears to be reasonably well equipped by international standards.

Electric carts and wheelchairs are both available and appear to be efficient. Toilet facilities are available and generally well maintained.

Most international flights are boarded via air bridges. However, several of the low-cost carriers still use steps, so you may need to ask for an ambulift to get you onto the aircraft if stairs are a problem.
