Disability Organisations – UK

Assist UK – Transforming Independence in the Community

Assist UK leads a UK-wide network of locally situated Disabled Living Centres. Most centres include a permanent exhibition of products and equipment that provide people with opportunities to see and try products and equipment and get information and advice from professional staff about what might suit them best.

Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) – Helping People for 40 Years

DLF is one of the UK’s leading health charities. They provide expert and impartial advice to people of all ages, helping them to find equipment to help them in the everyday tasks essential to independent living.

United Kingdom Disabled People’s Council (UKDPC)

They were first established in 1981 as the British Council of Disabled People, to be the umbrella body for disabled people’s organisations across the United Kingdom. They believe in, and strive for, the full inclusion of disabled people in society and the workplace. For them, inclusion is a human rights and civil liberties issue that must be effectively tackled. By working in partnership with disabled people’s organisations, the government and other bodies, they believe that equality can be achieved.

Disability Rights Watch UK – Collecting Evidence on Disability Rights

This is a UKDPC project which aims to make sure that disabled people and Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) are fully involved in observing how well the UK puts in place the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. They observe the Convention by collecting evidence about the experiences of disabled people in the UK.
