San José: Juan Santamaría International Airport

Juan Santamaría International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría) is Costa Rica’s principal international airport and serves the capital, San José, as well as the rest of the country. It’s named after Costa Rica’s national hero, a drummer boy who died in 1856 in fighting against US freebooter William Walker’s forces.

Juan Santamaría International Airport is located approximately 14 km (9 miles) west-north-west of San José city centre.
